Planes Trains and Automobiles

The only Logan I want to spend time with is Logan from Gilmore Girls - and only when he's on my TV in a TIVOED episode.

Unfortunatly I also got to spend time with Logan Airport in Boston yesterday. I flew out with a few coworkers for a meeting on a 7:30am flight from Philly to Boston. Our meeting started at 10am and then was done at 1:30pm. We went to Logan and figured we'd try to beat the Jersey snow and get back to Philly on a 3:30 flight.

The 2:30 flight gets cancelled.

Okay, we still have hope. They haven't cancelled our 3:30...yet.

The terminal lady at our gate (from here on known as Julie the Cruise Director) gets on the speaker and tells us that "A plow has overturned on the Philadelphia runway and the pilot can't get a departure time for three hours."

We order drinks and dinner. Time goes by with periodic updates from Julie. These are very helpful and she says things like "It looks like we MAY board in three hours, HOWEVER I can't be SURE that we'll take off," of "There is no update, just sit tight." Meanwhile flights to Philly are getting cancelled all around us. We start to wonder if she isn't leading us on, just having us wait for hours in the terminal so that she can cancel our flight. Getting our hopes up just to let us down.

Three hours pass. It's now 6pm.

Julie gets back on the PA to inform us that the 4:30 flight to Philly is boarding but our flight can't board yet b/c the captain doesn't want us waiting on the plane forever to take off. Okay, this doesn't make sense to us, but fine. We'll have to board soon.

Julie lets us know that the 6:00 flight to Philadelphia is cancelled.

More time ticks by. We feel triumphant that despite all these cancellations, there is still hope for the 3:30 flight.

Julie gets back on the PA and tells us that she has "very bad news. The 3:30 flight to Philadelphia has been cancelled."

It is now 6:30 and we can try and get on an 8:30 flight - but we all feel that this will get cancelled as well. Julie has not strengthened our faith in this airline. Plus, it should snow overnight in Boston at which point, if we get a flight for the morning, we'll probably get stuck again.

So the three of us decide to get in a cab and go to South Station. We buy three one way Amtrak tickets to Philadelphia. We ride in style and fall asleep periodically, then I get off the train six hours later in Trenton and Chris kindly gets out of bed and picks me up.

So yesterday my travel day started at 4:30 AM and ended at 1:30 AM the next day (today). Now I'm currently at work (dropped off by Chris) and my car is stuck in the parking garage in terminal B of the Philadelphia International Airport.

Where is John Candy when you need him???

Oh my god you poor thing! You should be in bed! I'm glad you got a train and didn't hitchhike or something. And good grief, you had to go up there for that short meeting?

Last time I was delayed in the Phila. airport I bought some liberty bell salt and pepper shakers for Carrie's boyfriend (my dogsitter at the time).

What a nightmare!! How are you going to get your car?? I can't believe you still had to go to work this morning...I *so* would have called in with "Ummm...yeah, I'll be late today." Good luck getting your car!

I should've stayed home, but I was going for the work pity. Its the perfect opportunity to look like i'd do anything for the client!

And btw I did end up getting my car last night at the airport. It sucks going to the airport when you're not picking anyone up or dropping anyone off. So I pretended that my car just got in from a trip to the Bahamas.

Sorry to hear about your airport woes though...
