Honeymoon Advice

I know this knitting blog has turned into a wedding blog...but that's just what's going on with me right now! So here's some more wedding related stuff:

First of all, has anyone been to Napa Valley? We're going for four days to Napa and four days to San Fran for our honeymoon. Another blog I read, LJC, asked her readers about San Francisco and she got a million helpful comments (which I printed out). So I figured maybe some of you have been to Napa. I'm not really worried about where to go in San Fran, since I know more people who have been there. So, any must-see wineries or must-dine restaurant tips would be greatly appreciated.

Tonight is my first dress fitting. My sister and I are going. I'm torn about posting pictures b/c some people who read this will be at the wedding and I kind of like the surprise factor. Then tomorrow Chris leaves for his bachelor WEEKEND in Baltimore on Friday morning. That's right - BACHELOR WEEKEND. Should be debacle.

On a knitting related note, Chris and I were considering a hand binding tradition for our wedding - which would be when they tie your hands together with cloth (tying the knot). And my officiant asked if I would like to knit that cloth! Isn't that the best? You know she must be a hardcore knitter to suggest that.

The hand-binding idea is really cool, and if you knit the cloth, it will make it even more special. I love that idea.

If you really want to go for the surprise factor, don't post a pic of the entire dress....maybe just a peek of some detailing or something to give us all a little sneak preview.

I wish I'd been to Napa so i could suggest wonderful things, but sadly, I have not. I am sure you will get tons of great advice though.

Are you doing the veil ceremony thing? My sister married a nice Catholic Filipino boy and they had one. I like the hand binding thing though - kinky! just kidding...

I've been to Napa! It was so beautiful, and of course we had a great time tasting wines. It was just a day trip, so I don't have any recommendations about restaurants or accomodations though. We went to 2 vineyards we liked a lot (van der heyden and the Niebaum Coppola one - totally different from each other, and both worth experiencing) and 1 that we didn't (stag's leap). I'm sure there were others, but they must not have made an impression.

Casey and I actually did that hand-binding thing during our ceremony... we had a knit rope though, not fabric...

It was actually really nice- I knit one i-cord, my friend Bridget knit some and my mom too... it was kinda neat. :)

I have never been to Napa, but in San Fran you must go to the Sushi Boat Restaurant (I believe that is the official name). As you sit at the sushi bar, little boats of sushi float by in a river and you can pick up whatever looks good.

I'm jealous..Napa was on the short list of possible honeymoon places for us too. We decided on Cabo San Lucas, which I am very excited about, but Napa would be great since I dig wine so much. I think a trip there next year will have to be in order. Once the wedding bills are paid off of course!

My hubby had a 4 day Bachelor Weekend In Vegas. I got a drunken phonecall 3 days into the trip. Lots of stories I wasn't supposed to know about but found out about anyway. The funniest line when he got home was "If i see one more set of fake boobs, I'll shoot myself. Those things HURT!" Apparently during lap dances he was getting wacked in the face a little hard with the silicone :)

I enjoyed a great trip to Napa Valley in May of this year (there are several posts about it on my blog) and it was a lot of fun. There are lots of great places to go - but I'll reserve my recs to just three:
1)Call ahead to reserve a tour of Jarvis Winery. You won't be sorry, I promise. It was the BEST thing we did on our trip. But you must reserve ahead.
2)Have lunch or dinner at a wonderul little restaurant in downtwon St. Helena called "Market". We LOVED it and went back a second time.
3)Have a drink one evening on the terrace patio at Greystone (Culinary Institute of America). There is a wonderful view from the terrace that sits above the strip - it's a delightful place to enjoy a drink.
Have fun!
