Fun with scanning and the best google ever

So, if you've been reading my blog for a bit you'll know I have a bad habit of Googling peeps from my past. Well tonight I googled my 9th grade boyfriend (or was it 10th grade) and I found his website! Since he's obviously into the internet a little there - he may realize I found him if he sees I linked to him. Anyway - if he does - um - yeah, I googled you. I also googled just about everyone I've ever known, so don't feel too special...

So anyway - this is the best kind of random google hit you can get - one where the person has a true life website. There are a couple of stories I want to tell about going out with him and maybe even a few pictures I could post, but I'm I going to refrain. Click on the link - and it'll be amusing all in itself.

But don't worry - this post won't be boring because Chris and I got a SCANNER! Yay! So you know what that means...

sitting.jpg

Here's me. I think it's 1988. That's my sister's best friend Jill. I'm not sure what's going on in this picture. It looks like I'm trying to sit down to escape my hair.

If you've ever wondered what I lookekd like in high school - I looked like this:

water.jpg

That's my highschool bedroom. I think it's 1994- which would make me 17 I think. Kate took this picture. Notice the things in my bedroom - an ashtray on my bed. We may or may not have been smoking cigarettes out my window. The giant Morrissey poster on my wall, the general teen angst in the air.

Here is Kate - sorry to post this Kate. I don't think it's that bad though.

I clearly remember this day. I had gotten my license not too long before this was taken (I'm a year older than Kate so that would make me 17 and Kate 16). We were going to go to the mall to meet up with these kids we hung out with and my high school boyfriend (not the one mentioned above, another one) and Kate was wearing this. And somewhere there is a picture of me in the same spot that she took. I was wearing a hippie shirt and bell bottoms. I drove to the mall and almost sideswiped a car. When we got there I remember telling everyone I almost died.

Breaking News: Pocky now available for men!

How happy are you that my honeymoon/wedding posts are over??

pocky.jpg

So I forgot to mention about San Francisco - We bought Pocky in Japantown. I got a real kick that there is now "Men's Pocky." We tried them both and they taste exactly the same.

In knitting news: I made a london beanie for Chris but it turned out too small for his head so I guess I have a new winter hat:

I really like this pattern. It's so fast! But if you're making it for your boy, make sure to make it a little longer than the pattern says or else it's too small.

In other news...I took an actual Pilates class last night. Let me just give you a word of warning here - Mari Winsor Pilates tapes WILL NOT prepare you for an actual pilates class. That's right - no matter how many times you do the "advanced burn" or the "Fat burning" tapes - you will not be able to complete a real live class.

I told the instructor that I was a beginner even though I've been doing the tapes for a while. Good thing, because she kicked my ass (Did I mention she had to have been twice my age?). I have no idea how those other women did all the moves! I am going back because I am determined to get better at it. Oh my god. It had to have been the hardest class I've ever taken! I wish you all could've seen me struggling to do a sit up by the middle of the class. It was like I was telling my body to move but it was refusing to obey me! Luckily I'm not too sore today.

San Francisco

We are in the home stretch of my honeymoon round up here - don't worry - we're almost back to our regularly scheduled knitting content.

To see the rest of our pics from San Fran you can click here.

First of all let me say that I made very loose plans to meet up with both Stacey and/or Elizabeth -but I brilliantly forgot both their phone numbers and forgot the very helpful detailed list of city suggestions from Elizabeth. So sorry to both of you! I'm a dope.

Napa Days 3 and 4

So onward and upward with my honeymoon detailing.

georgie.jpg

On day three we started off with horseback riding! We went out with our guide Midori from Napa Valley Trail Rides. Approaching the horses, we were a little weirded out, since neither one of us had ridden before. It was a lot harder than I thought it would be and our butts were a lot sorer!

You can see our pics here of us on the horses.

The Honeymoon - Napa Valley - Days 1 and 2

To view our pictures from Napa, go to this link (I fixed it!)...

grapas.jpg

(Okay so this is going to be a bit of a long winded entry. I wanted a record for myself too of what we did in Napa.)

We got up at 5:30 AM on Monday morning after all the hubub on Saturday and Sunday - so we were really tired. We drove to my least favorite airport ever - Philadelphia International. I don't think I dislike the airport as much as I dislike my experiences with US Airways, which is the main carrier there. Anyway - we had an easy time since we flew United and I even got to watch the first episode of sugary sweet "Three Wishes" and "The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants" on the plane. Oh how I love Rory Gilmore. In fact the only reason I watched it on the plane (besides having no book to read and no knitting -yes I forgot to bring knitting) was that she was in it. I liked it. Good teen flick.

The Wedding

I will do my best to catch you guys up on the wedding. Most of all, I was incredibly happy with the way the day turned out. All the work and the worrying was totally worth it! Everything turned out exactly like we wanted it to. It was the best wedding ever!

I am not going to use the wedding photographer's photos on here right now. We don't have the CD from her yet, but when we do, we will try to do some sort of flash slide show thingy for those who are interested. Basically I'm not sure if we can really put up her images or not so I'm going to use my friend Jackie's since she put hers online.

This is a long one, so I'm doing an extended entry...

Oh and check out the wedding poem Stacy wrote me. I love her poems!

By the way, it's hard to type with fake wedding nails.

So what have I been doing with my time off? Well I've been making all these:

bags.jpg

Welcome bags for people staying over! Mmm snackies. And also I've been wrapping our bridal party gifts.

I also have been teaching myself to crochet. Oh so much free time on vacation. I'd like to introduce you to my first dishrags:

dishrags.jpg

I generally am not very good at this crochet stuff. But I did get through those. I think it's harder to count the stitches and stay on target, but that's just me.

Tiny little entry about Hurricane Katrina

Okay - So reading my blog you wouldn't know that there was this whole huricane Katrina New Orleans, Gulf Coast stuff going on and I didn't really comment on it because I feel that in the aftermath of such a disaster anything I say would be ridiculous. But I did spend a whole lot of time last year in New Orleans for my old job. By my count I went down there four times. And I did enjoy myself - and I think this is a terrible tradgedy and I can't believe that the stories we hear and the pictures we see are from our own country. And I have many things to say about the administration, but I'll spare you my amateur not-so-educated opinions. Instead I'll give you my top ten favorite things about my visits to New Orleans and things I'm sad to say are probably destroyed:

  • Abita Beer - according to their website they survived the hurricane. I love Abita Turbodog.
  • Favorite dives by the convention center - The Corporation - a little hole in the wall bar where I met an 21 year old kid and his mom getting a beer before he shipped off to Iraq. They also had a bartender who was an Elvis Impersonator on the side. The Red Eye Grill where I ate lunch a lot while working, and the Acme Oyster House where I ate raw oysters on saltines for the first time. Lots of good memories.
  • Fried everything - this is the only place I've been to where you can have something deep fried for every meal and 99% of the time it's seafood.
  • A very clear memory of riding a segue scooter in a parking lot with some other vendors. Beer in had, zipping around like a looney.

Notice how I don't mention Bourbon street - I never really liked it, but I was fond of the utter debauchery that took place there. I've never seen more drunk business men ever. And I know there's a ton of historical sites, but I never saw them when I was down there working. So anyway - that's my little "I feel bad about New Orleans and the Gulf Coast" entry for you.

I ain't got nothing but love...8 Days a Week

So we are 8 days away from the wedding. I told Chris last night that I felt restless and jumpy and I couldn't figure out why and he was like "maybe because we're GETTING MARRIED IN A WEEK." Good point.

The crafts are mostly done, the gifts are mostly wrapped, the seating chart is figured out. All we really have to do now is get married. Ahhhh!!! As long as I don't drive Chris to the brink of insanity before then with my incessant questions - it should be fine.

It is also my last week of work before vacation. I can't wait to go on our honeymoon and see Napa and San Francisco. I may even meet up with a blogger or two for a bit if I can sneak away. (Is sneaking away from your own honeymoon really a bad thing to do?)

Last night I watched The Grudge. Sca-ry! I love horror movies even if they're cheesey half the time. Here's some scary movie commentary for you:

  • It the made for TV miniseries - who knew Tim Curry could be so scary?
  • Poltergeist - Oh and the true-life curse of poltergeist is scary too
  • The Ring - Not as scary as I thought it'd be, but very creepy
  • Darkness Falls - saw this with Lisa in the theater. Scary at first then utterly stupid
  • The Evil Dead, Evil Dead II, and Army of Darkness - loved them in college, not so in love any more.

The girl from the grudge? Or me on a bad day??
