San Francisco

We are in the home stretch of my honeymoon round up here - don't worry - we're almost back to our regularly scheduled knitting content.

First of all let me say that I made very loose plans to meet up with both Stacey and/or Elizabeth -but I brilliantly forgot both their phone numbers and forgot the very helpful detailed list of city suggestions from Elizabeth. So sorry to both of you! I'm a dope.

So we checked into our hotel in Pacific Heights - the Hotel Drisco. It was a really nice little hotel in a residential area. By the way, who are these people in these giant houses in Pacific Heights? Doctors? Tycoons?

So anyway - we had lunch at a little place called Food Inc. Then we relaxed for a bit before heading out for a walk down Fillmore Street to try and find Isobune for dinner. Fillmore street had a bunch of fun shops and little restaurants. We did find Japantown and Isobune, but the sushi there was maybe a little too unidentifiable for us. I mean I eat mostly rolls and there was a lot of regular sushi with strips of fish on top, but not too many rolls. So we didn't eat too much there and actually ended up going to another sushi place afterwards called Ten-Ichi on Fillmore street. Our concierge at the hotel recommended a bar in the area called the Lion's Bar, and that was really cool! I had a strawberry mojito. Yummers.

The next day we got up early and headed to Fisherman's Warf in hopes of going to Alcatraz to take the audio tour. We got there early and the next available tour was at 12:45, so we ended up going around Fisherman's Warf for a bit. We went to pier 39 and I ate tiny donuts and a condog. Then we looked at the sea lions for a bit. Then it was time for Alcatraz. The audio tour at Alcatraz was really cool and I recommend it. The rest of the day we hung around the hotel, had a late lunch at Harry's bar. We headed downtown for a bit and had a beer at a really odd pub called Lefty O'Douhls. It was half Irish Pub, half cafeteria. We ended up eating dinner near our hotel at Thai Stick. Here's a note for when you eat Thai food - when the waitress asks you twice if you're sure you want the noodles hot - she's basically warning you that you will catch on fire when your food comes.

Our last day in San Fran we went to the Ferry Market building. There was a great farmer's market and craft fair outside. Then we headed to Imagiknit! That's a great knitting store. I was so overwhelmed at the selection that I ended up leaving empty handed. We headed from there to the Castro and lunch at Welcome Home - a diner with really good food! Then we headed back to the hotel and ended our night with dinner at Zao - a noodle place.

All in all it was a short whirlwind tour of San Fran. I'm pretty sure that we missed 95% of the cool stuff in the city, but I'm glad we got to see the 5%. And next time, I will definitely remember the phone numbers of bloggers I am potentially supposed to meet up with.

It sounds like you went to all great places in SF. It may sound crazy, but I love those little doughnuts on Pier 39. (I don't know much about Napa, but all the food sounds yummy!)

Next time you come I will tatoo my email on your hand! :)

Not a big fan of Fishermans Wharf myself, except In-N-Out Burger, but otherwise, you went to some good places :) Fillmore is cool...and Imagiknit is AWESOME.

Next time, next time...
