To Dos

I thought I'd make a list of things to do once the baby arrives. You know all I can write lately is lists.

Knitting:
I'd like to knit the following things when my body returns to somewhat nearer to normal size:

A cardigan - perhaps the Dollar and a Half cardigan from this season's interweave, or the ever popular central park hoodie.

I can't imagine anything ever fitting around my waist again!

I'd also like to knit up some socks from yarn I've had sitting around for-e-ver.

That's some Cherry Tree I bought at Maryland LAST YEAR! Whew - need to knit that up.

I have about 1400 yards of sport weight wonderful Alpaca that needs to be made into something, along with Brooks farm I specifically bought to make something for a friend. And of course I should knit baby lug some cutie outfits when he arrives.

I'd also like to go back to knitting group once in a while. Geez I'm a slacker.

Other than knitting:

I'd like to go back to yoga. It's been oh, since I quit prenatal yoga, since I've gone to a class. Technically this is not my fault. Technically they cancelled my sessions so um, yeah.

I'm going to eat a spicy tuna roll. Oh Sushi how I've missed you.

I'm going to drink the following drinks, not necessarily together or in this order: One of Mr. Lug's home brews, a glass of red wine, A glass of champagne, a vodka cocktail made with what's left of the vodka we have from our friend's trip to Poland, lots and lots and lots of fully caffeinated coffee*.

I'd like to have a girl's night out. Who wants to come?

I'm going to wear shoes that have a heel! Woot!

I'd like to start putting photos in albums again - I was doing good for a while, but now have a stockpile of photos dating back to 2005 that need to be put in albums.

Granted I'm probably kidding myself with half this stuff considering I'll have less time than I do now once Baby Lug is here, but I love lists, so there you go.

*All of course to be consumed within the restraints of breast feeding. I don't want a drunk/cracked out baby.

A Rather Rude Entry About Songs That Should Be Retired

Mr. Lug and I were watching TV the other day and noticed that the Violent Femmes' Blister in the Sun was used in a commercial and I declared that songs should be allowed to retire. I mean really. There are certain songs that I think should hang up their hats and go to Florida to wrinkle and burn like, well like a blister in the sun really. So here's my list of songs I could go without hearing again for the rest of my life. Please forgive me if any of these are your favorite or your wedding song or something.

  • Jane Says by Jane's Addiction. Please, please, please can I never hear this godforsaken song again? I loved this song in high school and apparently so did everyone else and people, we need to let it go. It's not healthy to dwell in the past. Let's put it away with the old yearbooks and pressed prom corsages.

  • Evenflow by Pearljam. Radio in the Philadelphia area thinks that this song is still cool. Now, it was cool. I did like it. But that was approximately 12 years ago or more. And the radio stations in this area have continued to play it since then - as if it was a new song. Please put it out of it's misery and let it cut it's hair and get an RV and see the rest of the country.

  • American Pie by Don McLean. I can't even comment on this song, my dislike for it runs so deep. This song makes my ass twitch.

  • December, 1963 by the Four Seasons and Crocodile Rock by Elton John. Ugh. When these come on at weddings I go hang out with the smokers outside.

  • Any Dido song that didn't come out in the current year. Yes. They are catchy. I like them when they first come out - but by one year later, they are spoiled. Like moldy cheese. Ditto for Dave Matthews Band Songs - which should probably all be retired by now.

  • The End of the Innocence by Don Henley, Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton, and Fields of Gold by Sting - these fall into the same category for me. They were popular at a particular time and remind me George HW Bush, A Different World, and Shirts with solid fronts and see through sleeves, and a time in my life where I thought that headbands looked good on me.

  • Give It Away by Red Hot Chili Peppers - really there's a number of Red Hot Chili Peppers that I can't stand anymore. Their time is over! You know when you're in the car, and you're pleasantly surprised when a really good song comes on the radio that you haven't heard in a while, and you turn it up and rock out? All Red Hot Chili Peppers songs have the opposite effect on me.

  • Billy Idol. I recently was stuck in the Quest Diagnostics for 3 hours for my glucose test and watched a talk show on groupies. A woman who claimed to be a Billy Idol groupie told a story about sleeping with Billy Idol at his house and in the middle of the dirty deed looking up at the TV and seeing his video come on MTV. I still can't really wrap my head around that story. While I'm on the subject of Billys - how about retiring any Billy Ocean songs while you're at it?

  • Dream On by Aerosmith - actually a lot of Aerosmith songs could be retired. Rag Doll? Janie's Got a Gun? Remember how deep Janie's Got a Gun seemed at the time? Remember all those pre-vegan Alicia Silverstone videos and the discovery of Liv Tyler as a celebrity?

As you can tell I could go on and on insulting classic artists like there's no tomorrow. This is why satellite radio is on the rise. What songs would you like to see locked up in the retirement vault forever?

Snowy Sock Monkey Says Hi

monkey.jpg

It's snowing outside and my office sock monkey wants to take a snow day.

Things I'd rather be doing right now:

  • Vacationing in Napa (with the ability to actually drink)
  • Sitting on a beach somewhere with turquoise water
  • Sitting on my couch and knitting with hot cocoa
  • Basically anything but working!

Went to the doctor yesterday and they said everything's fine with baby lug. About 8 weeks to go. 27 pounds gained. I cannot even begin to imagine how I'm going to continue to get bigger for 8 more weeks. Seriously.

Right now I'm going to concentrate on imagining waking up in the morning, listening to KYW 1060 to find out that my school is closed so I have a snow day. SNOW DAY! I think I used to spend my snow days watching Let's Make a Deal, Threes Company, The Price is Right, and eating Ramen Noodles. All of which sounds like a dream right now.

Log Cabining and More

Oh where did I go for 2 weeks? Well the baby got me really. When I'm not working I'm sleeping. When I'm now working or sleeping we're working on the house.

Here's some things we've been up to (you know I love lists):

  • Registering for baby things They tell you that babies are expensive - that they need so much stuff. Well "they're" right. This baby is registered for two different strollers, two different types of car seats, and a myriad of other things and I've been told there are more things that I'll need that aren't even on there! SIlly baby lug. You are all invited to purchase things for the baby off of my registry. Just kidding. No really, I need some stuff. Just kidding! But seriously...do you want him sleeping in a drawer?
  • We celebrated Chris's brother's 40th birthday The guitar hero was played, food was eaten.
  • I completed one log cabin square I started this one off with a bang, certain that my log cabin blanket dreams would drive me to knit, knit, knit, day and night. I kind of lost steam after this first square though I am enjoying both the pattern and the yarn. The yarn is Elann Sonata in 5 shades. I don't really have a plan for how this blanket will be laid out, but I'm going to randomly log cabin squares in the same shades with a solid border until I run out of yarn.

  • logcabin.jpg

  • I'm 32 weeks along Bring on the inexplicable growing of my feet, my gravity defying belly, random bouts of narcalepsy, and the beginning of the dreaded search for daycare. Did you know you have to figure out who your pediatrician will be and what daycare you'll use before you even give birth? Who knew?
