Part Time
That's me - part time back at work. It's also baby lug - part time in daycare. Here's our first day:
It's list time! (Like I said, not much to blog about but the baby...And here I go blogging about him anyway!)
- Putting your kid in daycare sucks. Any way you slice it, it's hard to feel good about someone else watching your kid 8-10 hours a day. We're lucky we can put him in for half days for two weeks to get him acclimated. My dislike of daycare is no slight to the facility he is going to. They are super nice and really trying to make us comfortable and happy.
- So far Simon's slept for 3 hours each day of daycare. The amount I was able to get him to nap when I had him during the day: 30 minutes. 30 minutes! In my arms! He sleeps for 3 hour stretches in a CRIB in daycare! Harumph.
- Simon picked the last two weeks to reject taking bottles of formula. First 9 weeks of his life? Breastfeeding and 1-2 supplementary bottles of formula were no problem. As soon as he has no choice but to take a bottle? He screams through feedings. So far he's managed to take some formula in daycare every day - so he's not starving or anything, but he still isn't altogether happy about the bottles.
- Being back at work? Ahh - here is a weird conundrum for me. I like it. I like being with adults and getting dressed and doing SOMETHING other than watching TV all day. Hey I can even use the bathroom whenever I want!
- Other randomness - this show is hilarious. The new Wilco album is pretty good. I can't stop eating these.

Cute baby... I scrolled down and loved the 'kick your ass' pose! Just a warning, from a former peds nurse whose bosses ran a super posh daycare (it was over 1000/month back in '92) and the type of place that 'nannies' were the ones bringing the sick kids in to the office, to watch for the little signs of neglect... baby not holding your gaze, bald patches on back/sides of head for being left in an infant seat/crib too long, (I occasionally had to go 'fetch' infants for their appointments and would see babies that had been dropped off in the am still strapped into their pumpkin seats at lunch time.) I don't want to scare you, and I think if you have to work, that you've found a good option, but the long napping thing is a tip-off that they may be ignoring him. Don't you wish you could 'bug' him and see what's really happening while your back is turned? I had to leave a really fun job as a PA for Lauder at the time my first child was born, and sobbed bitterly about loss of adult contact. I wish you the best, but trust no one with your precious boy... keep those caregivers on their toes by popping in at odd times of day, when you can. Best of luck to you. Camilla
