Even the spammers have abandoned hope
I post so infrequently now that even "MLF Seeker DIane" and "Hot Mike Only 18" and other various naughty spammers have stopped bothering to comment on old posts. I don't blame them, really. But free time is slowly, ever so slowly, creeping back into my life. Should I do laundry, or perhaps change the sheets? Probably. Should I plan for our financial future with this free time? Most definitely. But how about instead I get addicted to Facebook, read Harry Potter, and watch the movie Cache in 20 minute increments?
I mentioned in my last post that I want to lose some of this baby weight. So far my plan consists of limiting myself to light ice cream and only 3 mini milkyway bars a day. Oh, and I do some sit ups and push ups and random yoga stretches before bed. There is nothing quite as humbling as me trying to do a push up at the foot of my bed before collapsing to sleep, after having had half a beer and cereal for dinner, all before 9:30 pm -- only to be woken up 30 minutes later by the baby wanting to eat. You want to eat? Yeah, me too. If only there was some kind of magic nacho machine that would appear in the middle of the night when I wake up. Mmmm.
Mr Lug and I often discuss what Simon will be like when he grows up. The discussion usually takes a turn to what kind of music we will find acceptable. For us, music meant a lot growing up. It was how we identified ourselves and had a lot to do with our friendships. For me it meant my friends and I liked the same music, and it meant something to us. We went to shows in Philly and discussed what bands we liked and usually knew multiple people in garage bands at any given time. I remember my freshman year college roomate told me she didn't really listen to music much and I was floored. How do you come across as a misunderstood angst ridden teen if you don't listen to music? Anyway - here are our hopes for SImon's musical preferences:
- Metal. So our dream for some reason is for Simon to rock it in a metal band. We both feel metal is underrated. I would hope he can be a little cooler than the black trench coat, black hightop wearing metal heads I grew up with. Although the metal heads I grew up with were nice guys.
- Punk. We plan to have a mohawk on that kid as soon as possible
- Rock. Now "rock" has so many meetings - we're talking My Morning Jacket type rock. That is totally acceptable.
- Emo. Okay this is my thing. If he wants to listen to something like Death Cab - that is fine with me. Mr.Lug also approves, as this could be a good way to get into chick's pants.
- Other acceptable things would be alt country (Wilco), skater type poppy punk,
world music, and some rap
Unacceptable:
- Country. Please god, no country music
- Rap. Chris and I kind of waiver on this one because there is some R&B/Rap that we both love, but most of the radio friendly stuff isn't our favorite. But I did like all the recent Outkast, Kanye West, and Lupe Fiasco stuff. And there's other Rap we like.
- What we call "meathead" music. None of that Creed, Three Doors Down, type stuff.
We'll work on soundproofing our garage so his metal band can practice. Do you know any 1 year olds looking for a lead singer?
