Ferber is a Four Letter Word

So Baby Lug decided sleep is for a**holes.

Mr. Lug and I were rather sleep deprived for many weeks, lets call the state we were in "waking coma." We turned to Dr. Ferber. I could go into the internal turmoil that Mr. Lug and I have been through during our recent "ferberizing" of Baby Lug. I could discuss how the method is controversial, how it both worked for us,and made us feel like terrible people, about the pros and cons, etc. But instead I'd like to discuss whether anyone has thought of turning the Ferber method into a drinking game. Here are my suggested rules:

  • Baby wakes up crying - you both drink, then go in and check on baby.
  • Wait 3 minutes and if the baby wakes up again during this 3 minutes, it's a waterfall until the 3 minutes is up.
  • After 3 minutes whoever goes in to check on the baby is thumbmaster.
  • Wait 5 minutes, if baby cries before 5 minutes is up, finish your beer.
  • After 5 minutes, if baby is still crying, whoever goes in gets to make a rule.
  • If baby continues to cry, you each pour some of your drink in a glass. Continue from beginning and whoever hasn't jumped out a window has to drink the glass..

Anyway - More interestingly: Baby Lug has veggies!

That is my daddy's arm, not my mommy's!

Baby Lug is such a character.

I know nothing of Ferber, but the drinking game sounds like a fun time for all.

He is getting so big and adorable as always!

We did a similar method to Ferberizing and worked like a charm. First few nights were very tough - and i ove the drinking game concept. Would have made it much more bearable, especially the night we were up to and hour and a half, and she fell asleep on her knees with her head in the corner of the crib gripping onto the rungs, hair wet from all the tears...but by day 3 she sried 10 minutes and then out - now she lays down, rolls over, and doesn't even wait for us to leave the room before she closes her eyes. It's a wonderful thing... just in time to do it all again :)

They need to put concepts like these in baby books. Actually we should come up with a concept that turns the baby world into one big drinking game. Take for example, Dora the Explora, when Dora asks participation from the viewers it's followed by a long pause indicating a response. My idea, would be to chug as many beers as possible before the first pause. When she asks, you MUST do what is requested. If you are able, then you don't proceed to the next challenge. The last one standing has to drink through the closing credits. The possibilities are endless. I think these games would be the perfect cure for PPD!!

We Ferber'ed too, sort of. Or mostly. It sucks. But it works. Glad he is sleeping! Those pictures are so cute!

OMG, Baby Lug is adorable. I love the faces they make when you give them something they're not sure about. I ferberized my daughter after 2 months of no sleep - stuck her in her crib, shut the door, shut our door, turned off the monitor, put in earplugs, and pulled the pillow over my head. Hubby got up to go comfort her, and I said,"DON'T YOU DARE." She cried for 1 hour and 45 minutes, then slept for 8 hours straight each night thereafter.

I do like the drinking game though. ;o)
